One eyed fluking in Huntington, NY

*Photo is not the actual fluke caught

My Fluke was caught on May 20th at Sand City. It was the first trip of the season for Capt. T. Stevens, J. Hlenski, G. Wood, and Myself. We made it out at about noon. It was a sunny day with the wind coming out of the South West. Being it was the first day of the season we decided to work off of Sand City.  We had a great day with consistent action. We caught a total of 5 Fluke on the day. I was getting frustrated that everyone else was getting fish except me. Then all of a sudden BANG!!! It was dead weight on the other end of my line. I knew it was a monster. Once I started reeling I knew it was a big fish. Once it surfaced we realized it was huge “Door Mat”. Once in the boat we measured and weighed the fish. He was close to 2 feet. The Fluke was 23 inches and 6 lb’s.  He had one eye and was the biggest and grizzled Fluke I had ever seen. We decided to let him go so that he can make more Fluke for us to catch for the rest of the season.

 Was 23 inches

Weighed 6 lbs

Caught on Squid and spearing at Sand City.
